Responses by Forge Project.

Background: Launched in 2021, Forge Project supports Indigenous leaders in the United States, the decolonization of US institutions, and the fostering of Indigenous communities with arts and culture programs, including a program for contemporary Indigenous artists and a collection of their art. This website relaunch by Brooklyn-based design firm Other Means provides a better resource on the scope of our work and is more user friendly, with easier-to-read typefaces and traditional site features such as a top navigation and search bar.

Design core: A new interactive homepage with moveable type. Direct links to upcoming programming. Details on the land. Stats on the collection. A newsletter signup. A comprehensive database on the Forge Project art collection, browsable by artist, medium and year and sorted in grid or list view. The launch of Forging, Forge Project’s digital-first journal.

Favorite details: Since Forge Project’s focus is to support historically marginalized or erased Indigenous culture, our robust collections and artist pages are an important aspect in making information available and easily accessible, including information on our lending program.

Special navigational features: When visitors first enter forgeproject.com, they are met with a pop-up land acknowledgement that requires them to read an d click on each aspect of it, including a link to the Stockbridge-Munsee community, to encourage support for the Land Back initiative.

Technology: The site was built on Kirby CMS.
